At Corail Chaib, every piece of jewelry is handcrafted in our workshop in El Kala, Algeria, from natural Mediterranean red coral. Here is where our coral comes from and how we guarantee its authenticity.
Mediterranean Red Coral (Corallium rubrum)
We work exclusively with Corallium rubrum, the precious red coral of the Mediterranean, used in jewelry for centuries. It should not be confused with tropical reef corals (such as elkhorn or staghorn coral), which are protected and which we never use. Corallium rubrum is not listed in the CITES appendices, and its harvesting is regulated under Algerian law.
100% Legal Sourcing
We have not carried out any coral fishing since 2000. Our raw coral comes only from two official sources:
- AGENOR (National Agency for the Transformation and Distribution of Gold and Precious Metals), an Algerian public body;
- Official sales by Algerian Customs of seized coral.
We only sell finished jewelry: no raw coral is ever sold.
Family Craftsmanship Since 1976
Our story began in 1976 with Mr. Ali Chaib, who worked in coral processing at the National Fisheries Office. Since 1989, Corail Chaib has carried on this know-how in El Kala. Today, Mohamed Chaib, a registered artisan, shapes every piece in our workshop and continuously creates new designs.
A Certificate of Authenticity With Every Piece
Every order comes with a certificate of authenticity confirming that the jewelry is made from natural Mediterranean red coral (Corallium rubrum), handcrafted by Corail Chaib.
